Home / Secondary Clarifiers

The “mixed liquor” from the RBC / activated sludge hybrid system enters circular secondary clarifiers to facilitate gravitational separation of solids from the wastewater. The clear wastewater overflows weirs and is disinfected prior to discharge to the Mousam River, while excess sludge accumulating at the bottom of the clarifier is wasted from the system to the sludge storage tanks. A portion of the sludge is returned to the secondary treatment system to maintain the microbial population density needed to adequately treat the wastewater.
