Getting a Meter installed on your irrigation System

If you have an irrigation system, the District will make adjustments based on water usage on an approved water meter installed on the irrigation line.

To be eligible for this adjustment, the customer needs to do the following:

  1. Purchase a water meter from the District, as of 2021 this is a requirement. The meter will be sold at cost plus sale tax, currently the amount per meter is $114.20.  The meter will be able to measure all your irrigation uses.
  2. Owner is responsible for installing the meter and obtaining required plumbing permits from the Town of Kennebunk. If you do not already have backflow prevention, you will have your  plumber to install it.  Go to:  kennebunkmaine.us/permit to apply online.
  3. The owner needs to make sure that that the meter is only measuring water used by the irrigation system.
  4. Install the meter in a location that it can be easily read and can be photographed, and
  5. Arrange for a District representative to do a final inspection. the District representative will only be looking for a proper, permanent installation that is metering the water delivered to the irrigation system.  The District will only do inspections on Fridays by appointment and the owner should give the District a 48-hour notice.  Call telephone number 207-985-4741 to set an appointment for the inspection.
